  • What is it?

    It’s a reloadable prepaid card and although not a debit or credit card, it can be used in a similar way to shop online, over the phone, or in store. It's a Visa card, so you can use it almost anywhere you see the Visa sign. When your balance runs low, you can top up at over 30,000 places in the UK at a cost of £1, and online via your PayPal account (if you have one), for free.

  • Who can apply for a card?

    The PayPal Top Up Card can be applied for by anyone in the UK who is over 16 years, living in the UK. You don't have to be a PayPal user to get one.

  • What checks will be carried out when I apply for a card?

    Although there are no credit checks, your address and identity will still need to be verified, for security reasons. For these purposes, various checks will be undertaken including checks on the electoral register.

  • Where can I use it?

    Your PayPal Top Up Card can be used online, over the telephone, in stores, abroad and at cash machines - almost anywhere you see the VISA sign. That's over 26 million places all over the world.

  • When can I start using my card?

    If you paid for your card and loaded it using your PayPal account, you can start using your card as soon as you have activated it. If you have not already loaded and paid for your Card, you can use your card once you have loaded it for the first time and activated it (in this case, remember that when you are loading your card for the first time, at a Post Office or PayPoint outlet, the card fee of £4.95 will be deducted from the value loaded on your card).

  • How do I activate my card?

    You will need the four digit access code and password you set up when you applied for the card. Then activate online at www.paypal.co.uk/topupcard (if you have any difficulties with activating your card please call Customer Services on 0845 301 2797 (or Textphone 01908 847702).

  • What happens if my card is lost or stolen?

    If you are unfortunate enough to lose your PayPal Top Up Card, call Customer Services on 0845 301 2797 (Textphone 01908 847702) straight away and providing you can give certain information relating to your card, your card will be cancelled and you may then request a replacement card, loaded with the value remaining. A fee of £4.95 is payable for issuing a replacement card.

    Usually you will only be liable up to a limit of £50 for any unauthorised use of the card prior to you notifying us of the loss. However there are certain circumstances in which any money that's lost or stolen before you notify us of the loss of the card may not be refunded. For details, please read the Terms and Conditions.

  • Can I use the card abroad?

    It's easier then sorting out and carrying foreign currency. Your PayPal Top Card is accepted almost anywhere you see the Visa sign. Please note that there are certain fees payable where transactions are undertaken abroad (Please see Summary Box for details).

  • Where can I load and top up my card?

    If you have a PayPal account, you can top up your card online through your PayPal account. You can also top it up using cash at over 30 000 places in the UK - at Post Offices, petrol stations or supermarkets or any outlet displaying the PayPoint Logo.

  • What is PayPoint?

    PayPoint is a branded retail network for local payment of essential payment services, such as bills and travel cards. It's now available to you for topping up your PayPal Top Up Card.

    You can top up your card at thousands of PayPoint locations throughout the UK - just look for the PayPoint signs.

    Simply hand your PayPal card together with the cash you wish to deposit, to the retailer, who will swipe your card and hand you a receipt which you must keep. Your cash will be instantly credited to your card.

  • Are there any limits on the value that can be loaded or topped up on my card?

    There are limits that apply to the amount that you can load on to your card. Please see the PayPal Top Up Card Summary Box for further details of these limits.

  • Where can I view my card details?

    You can update your address details, top up your card, set up a recurring payment and view a list of your recent transactions with our Online Account Manager to activate your card and start using the system, please visit www.paypal.co.uk/topupcard.

  • Do I get a statement?

    You don’t get a paper statement, but you can keep an eye on all of your transactions and maintain your account using the online account manager. You will need to register your card in order to do this.

  • What happens when my card expires?

    You will be contacted shortly before your card is about to expire and asked if you would like a new card when your card expires. If you request a new card, you will then receive it a few days later. There is a fee of £4.95 for replacement cards. Alternatively you could end the agreement and providing your balance exceeds the minimum redemption figure, ask for the balance remaining on the card to be redeemed. A redemption fee is payable.

  • Can I give my card to someone else?

    This card is issued to the named person that made the application and it is for the applicant’s use only. You should not allow anyone else to use your card.

  • When do I get my PIN?

    If your application for a card is successful, a PIN (Personal Identification Number) will be sent to you automatically. You should receive this before you receive the card and welcome pack.

  • Can I cancel my card and get a refund?Yes, you may cancel the card at any time and redeem any value remaining. However, please read the PayPal Top Up Card Terms and Conditions for further details.

Calls may be recorded. The maximum call charge from a BT landline is 6p, plus up to 6p per minute. Calls from other networks may vary.
